North East & Yorkshire Branch

  • Yorkshire/NE Branch

This Branch was started in 2011. or really re-started, as there had been a Yorkshire Branch which met just outside Leeds, but had closed following the death of its Founder

The Yorkshire/NE branch meets at THE BAR CONVENT, BLOSSOM STREET, YORK, which is a five minute walk from York Station. (Turn Right outside the station and keep walking till you reach Blossom Street).   There is an excellent Café.   We meet on the occasional SATURDAY afternoon from 2pm till 4pm.

Our NEXT MEETING is on SATURDAY 25th MAY 2pm, when Paul & Sharron Bassett of the SCOTTISH BRANCH will be giving a Presentation on BILLY REED (Elgar's close friend & leader of the LSO from 1912 - 1935) - A very interesting Programme.

We are privileged to welcome the Composer, Author and Broadcaster - ANTHONY PAYNE on SATURDAY 14th SEPTEMBER at 2pmANTHONY PAYNE "completed" or "elaborated" ELGAR's 3rd (& unfinished, final) SYMPHONY - the first performance was in February 1998. He will give an illustrated talk on this very exciting (and at times, somewhat controversial) project.   Not to be missed!

    Why not come along?
By attending meetings and by joining the Society, you can discover more about one of England's greatest Composers.  Edward Elgar was born in 1857 and died in 1934.   He created much more than his Pomp & Circumstance Marches, and was quite different from the apparent "military personality" portrayed in some of his photos.   Come and join us.   Admission to the Meetings is Free.  See and hear leading speakers on Elgar and hear aspects of his music that you may have never heard. before.  And why not share your ideas, interest and enthusiasm for this mainly self-taught Composer and his wide variety of Music?
